"Floral Mania"

August  is a month when all the toils in gardens come alive!  We are showcasing new floral paintings by Erika Deruaz, Leslie Dorofi, David Houlton, Deborah Czernecky and newcomers Luminita Serbanescu, Peggy Morley  and Gilda Pontbriand.

John Alexander Day : July 1 - 31

"Ottawa Scenes"

John enjoys painting directly from nature in order to capture the moment, the atmosphere and the light.  When John is painting on the streets, his urban landscapes of the city, towns, and rural areas, light is still the dominating factor.  The overall "hustle and bustle" os the streets - the people, the cars, the buildings - all add to his excitement of painting outdoors._______________________________________________________________

Hilde Lambrechts : February 12 - March 12

"La Grande Parade"

Hilde Lambrechts uses pen and ink on Peterboro, mixed media on Canson, and oil on wood to present an amusing parade of figures, which either embody problems of our present environment or show humorous mutations that could be useful for survival in a changing climate.

Hilde's pen and ink drawings are an invitation to think about the problems we face as a race, from our disconnection with the earth we live on to the social and economic consequences of our time.  They are wake-up calls in black and white.  Hilde always emphasizes the dominance of the human species with a bold outline of the human figure.  It holds a dense accumulation of drawn associations, often using hidden puns and a twisted perspective.  The accompanying word sketch illustrates her train of thought, and completes the pungent message that change is needed.

In response to the grim reality of the black and white pen and ink drawings, the colorful mixed media sketches and oil paintings humorously rekindle a connection with nature.  Hilde's conté sketches are on the spot compositions of several two-minute poses of a live model.  Ink, acrylic paint and/or watercolor crayon are added in a later stage to create comical ensembles of humanlike creatures.  These sketches are studies for the oil paintings, which show a series of humourous mutations of the human figure, embracing both the animal and plant kingdom.

Vernissage : Thursday the 11th of February, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm

Bina Mirza :  April

Viewers can derive their own appreciation for the pure and simple beauty of the landscape embodied in the paintings when natural elements are brought together with brilliant hues. Our environment shapes our understanding and our perceptions, and by integrating nature into my art, the canvas becomes a window to the magnificent world around us.

Jeannie Polisuk :June 1 - 30

Jeannie’s work has involved the creation of conceptual based art that explores social construction and gender roles, identity, memory, and the human experience. She combines materials such as acrylic, oil, wax and resin through a process of many layers, attempting to reach something that is tangible and real, ambiguous and unexplainable. Through a combination of media including photography, drawing, collage and painting, her work focuses on deconstructing false realities that exist within fairy tales and nursery rhymes, media representation and popular culture, and the imagined spaces that permeate our childhood and adult culture. Throughout her body of work, she attempts to scratch beneath the surface veneer to explore the complexities of the human experience and psyche, which is at times ineffable.
