Artist StatementAfter painting watercolour florals and landscapes for many years, my work has evolved towards making a truer and deeper connection between who I am as a person and what I put on the canvas. Ideas excite me. My core motivation involves partnering with others to help them find their path in life and the ways in which they can contribute their gifts and talents. My work now focuses on these central themes. Our complex world can grind us down. Staying connected to beauty, imaginative thinking, and authentic conversation inspires us and fosters resilience. I see my paintings as metaphors that allow the viewer to build their own story. My personal inspiration often comes from ideas regarding possibility, hope and engagement that I want to consider and explore. The work itself invites others to participate in a dialogue thereby making it their own. I had this experience of entering into a profound understanding while standing in front of a Jack Bush painting at the AGO and was hooked for life. In the spring of 2007, my show Inner Landscapes II was inspired from sketches that people did expressing aspects of their own Myers Briggs personality profile. I interpreted their sketches to capture the essence of what they were expressing whether it be the subtle shades of grey that captured the quiet stillness of the introvert or the noisy action and vibrant colour of the extroverted preference. The show became theatre as people engaged in animated conversation about the paintings and what they meant from their world stance.
